San Diego Vintage Trolley Cars

Former San Francisco Muni car 1122 arrives at the San Diego Trolley yard from Lake Tahoe. The cars had originally been brought to the Central California mountains to run a vintage car system that never materialized. This, along with another PCC car will be restored and used in downtown San Diego hopefully sometime in 2008.

Car 1123 joins 1122 in the San Diego Trolley yard on December 14, 2005. Originally from San Francisco, these cars will be restored and run on the loop in downtown San Diego. Tentatively called the "Silver Line", these cars will run clockwise through the Center City area along with the familiar red Trolleys. This single-ended PCC still has the San Francisco Municipal Railway logo on the side.

New MTS Director and former San Diego City Councilman Harry Mathis is interviewed by Fox 6 shortly after the two PCCs arrived on San Diego Trolley property on December 14, 2005. Mathis, along with San Diego Trolley Safety Manager Andy Goddard, have spearheaded the effort to bring these cars to San Diego and to start the restoration process. Thanks in part to the San Diego Centre City Development Corp, the cars were able to get to San Diego before another harsh mountain winter could do any more damage.
